Biologix is a competition targeted at secondary school students from 16 to 18 years of age. This age range was chosen because these individuals are in the process of weighing up potential courses for tertiary education. We are trying to facilitate the reach of Synthetic Biology to wider audiences that may not have easy access to this field or the general scientific field. Biologix will be open to all interested students regardless of whether they have demonstrated strong prior interest in STEM or are dabbling in the STEM sphere for the first time. Additionally, through this initiative, we're hoping to impart various essential and transferable skills within Synthetic Biology alongside publicisation of King's as an attractive higher education institute.
Competition Calendar
Synthetic Biology is an emerging area of science that works with biological systems. It takes inspiration from nature and tries to redesign and engineer organisms to meet specific performances. The chemical synthesis of DNA with a growing knowledge of genomics allows the assembly of modified sequences that can be grown and used in a variety of industries.
How Does It Affect You?
Synthetic Biology is a part of our everyday lives. It is an ever-growing presence in many industries, from Biopharmaceutical, to Fragrances. Many industries are changing to 'bio-based', complementing the rise of Synthetic Biology. From consumer products to environmental solutions; Synthetic Biology is quickly becoming an integral part of tackling wide-scale problems across the world.
