About Us
We are a team of 21 undergraduate students from King’s College London from a range of academic backgrounds including Nutrition, Neuroscience, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering!

We are currently taking part in the 2021 iGEM Competition. iGEM is the international Genetically Engineered Machine competition, a highly prestigious genetic engineering competition in which more than 350 student-led teams from across the world carry out ground-breaking research throughout the summer and present their results in a giant jamboree in autumn. Every year, students design and implement their own lab work into a project, getting involved with the public and engaging with the ethics of their projects.

Our 2021 team 'Renervate Therapeutics' is working on Phase II of last year’s project ‘Renervate’. We aim to revolutionise current treatments for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). Following SCI, conditions within the spinal cord hinder successful axon regeneration, which leads to traumatic disability. We plan to provide a solution in the form of a novel treatment involving a bioscaffold combined with a mussel foot protein bioadhesive that encourages axon regeneration.
